THE MOURNING STAR
The artist inspiration for the "NOT Pentacharm"

Over 5 years ago, before there was a Record label, Managers, Merch, Lawyers and other handlers, I decided to create something special for a new friend of mine. I had to first redraw and alter the existing BVB logo, it for one was not very aesthetically appealing, it would not fit the purposes I had in my mind. I have always loved the heaviness and mysteriousness that the classic pentagram brought to the world of Heavy Metal. I had always wanted to create a contemporary version of it for a new generation of fans of Heavy music. I felt that this reinvention should be something with a little more beauty, but still containing the heaviness and the mystery of the original, a balance of light and dark. I wanted to design a symbol not just for the band, but also to stand as a beacon for the fans. A star has many meanings as does the symbolism. Symbolism in art matters very much to me. Whether a falling star, a wishing star, shooting star or rock star. It's the morning star that I would settle on. The morning star symbolizes the Sun and the new beginnings that each new day brings. There is always hope, if you could just get through today. The Sun will always rise again and bring about a new day, with new possibilities. 

In the bible, both Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12) and Jesus (Revelation 22:16) are referred to as the Morning Star. All of this to me was a perfect set of meanings to symbolize the new Black Veil Brides emblem. Andy's Catholic background and religious skepticism along with his beautifully constructed cryptic lyrics, blended perfectly with my own visions of the supernatural, unnatural and natural world around. There's Good and Evil in all of us. No one is immune to the battle between darkness and light.

I am very proud of the hope that Andy has given his fans. And I am honored to have created something that represents this hope. That is why I named it the MOURNING STAR. It's the star for the mourning. So that the heavy hearted, the hopeless and broken could have something that would symbolize this. To remind them that if there is darkness in life, there also must be light. NEVER GIVE IN, NEVER BACK DOWN! .... and for the 5 BVB logos for each band member that makes up the star? That's just good creative design :)
